Our classes / Rocket

Rocket: faster, stronger, playful

Built on an Ashtanga foundation, then sped up and set loose. Arm balances will be offered. Gravity will be negotiated.

Rocket takes the structure of Ashtanga and makes it quicker, less linear and a good deal more playful. The sequence keeps moving, the postures come at you in a different order each time, and the harder shapes are always offered rather than required. You can take the option or leave it. Either way you keep flowing.

Expect a strong, sweaty practice with plenty of arm balances and inversions on the menu. Nothing is forced. The teacher will show you the full expression and the gentler way in, and you choose the version that fits your body today. Some days that’s the headstand. Some days it’s the version with your feet firmly on the floor, and that counts just as much.

Who it’s for

All levels are welcome. If you have practised a little vinyasa or Ashtanga you’ll feel at home quickly, and complete beginners are looked after too — you’ll simply work with the grounded options while you find your feet. The pace is brisk, so come ready to move and to laugh at yourself when an arm balance doesn’t quite happen. It will, eventually.

What to expect, what to bring

You’ll warm up, flow through standing and seated work, play with a few balances, then cool down properly before rest. Bring yourself, water and clothes you can move in. Mats and props are free to borrow at the studio, so there’s nothing you need to buy before you arrive.

Who teaches it, and where

Diego Marin teaches most of the Rocket classes, at Solas Santa Cruz in the Movement Room and over at Venice Beach. He has a knack for making the hard things feel possible and the whole room feel a little lighter. Meet him and the rest of the crew on the teachers page.

When it runs

Rocket runs regularly through the week across our California studios. Times and rooms shift, so the surest way to grab a spot is to head to the schedule and book. Popular classes fill fast, so booking ahead saves you a wasted journey.
