Our classes / Ashtanga
The Ashtanga sequence
The same set series, every time. The repetition is the point, and it is the ground every other class here is built on.
Level · All levels welcome · Studios · Venice (Main Room) · Duration · 90 minutes
Ashtanga is the traditional practice: a set sequence of postures, linked by the breath, run in the same order every single time. Nothing is improvised. You learn the shapes once and then you meet them again and again, and the work moves from “what comes next” to how you actually feel doing it. This is the foundation our Rocket classes are built on, faster and less linear, but it all starts here.
It suits anyone who likes structure and wants to watch their own progress over weeks rather than days. Because the series never changes, there is nowhere to hide and nothing to second-guess. Newer students are genuinely welcome; the early postures are accessible, the room is calm, and Marcus will give you options the whole way through. You are not expected to know the names or nail the binds on day one. You are expected to show up and breathe.
Expect a steady, breath-led practice that builds heat early and settles quiet at the end. Standing poses, balances and a floor sequence, all tied together by the breath, the same way each time so your body starts to know the shape of the class before your head does. It is a morning practice, and it is the kind that sets the rest of the day right.
Bring yourself, water, and clothes you can move in. Mats and props are free to borrow at the studio, so there is no kit to buy before your first class. Come a few minutes early, find a spot, and let the room settle you.
Ashtanga is taught by Marcus Reid at Solas Venice, in the Main Room. It is open to all levels, so you do not need a course or a referral to start. Just a place on the mat.
Classes run as a regular morning fixture. To see the next session and reserve your spot, head to the schedule and book. Drop-ins are welcome when there is space, but popular classes fill fast, so booking ahead is the safe bet.
